The Arena Football League 2 is a farm league for the Arena Football League, a training ground for players and a means to increase its fan-base in smaller markets. It got its start when the Arena Football League purchased the Indoor Football League in 2000.

The Arena game ball is a Wilson model sporting a distinctive two-tone leather design and the word “Ironman” near the valve, a reference to the award given to a select player each year.
